When attachment to the loved ones came to the forefront, the very thought that the war could result in the loss of loved ones brought strong emotions of sorrow and despondency to his mind. Arjuna’s reverence and attachment to them brought forth a massive change in his attitude, so much so that he refused to fight. Lord rides the chariot carefully so as not to pass in front of Duryodhana, Dusshasana, Sakuni, who are sinners and the wrong doers, but in front of Bhishma Pitamaha and Dronacharya. After that Arjuna asks his friend and the charioteer “Partha Sarathy” Bhagavan Sri Krishna to ride the chariot to the middle of the battlefield so that he can see his enemies closely. The first 20 Shlokas of Chapter 1 details the scene of the battle field. While the situations are different the underlying issues are similar usually arising from attachment, fear, greed and other emotions. We go through similar emotional trauma and stress when faced with such issues. Quite similar to Arjuna, we also face ethical or moral dilemmas in our daily life and have to make choices in such situations. In fact up to the 7th Shloka of 2nd chapter Arjuna goes into great detail rationalising the futility of the war between the two families. This essentially sets the scene for the dialogue between Arjuna and Krishna. There are 47 Shlokas in the first chapter which go into detail the emotional afflictions of Arjuna when faced with the situation of engaging in a war with his kith and kin.

This series on Bhagavad Gita is an attempt to synthesise the learning from the great work of some of the Gurus, philosophers and relate it to our everyday life challenges.īhagavad Gita is divided into 18 chapters and normally these chapters are analysed in 3 parts. Numerous interpretations and commentaries have been written on the Bhagavad Gita with widely differing views. The Gita presents a synthesis of the Brahmanical concept of Dharma and the Yogi ideals of Moksha through Gnana, Bhakti and Karma. The Gita is set in a narrative framework of a dialogue between Pandava prince Arjuna and his guide and charioteer the Bhagavan Krishna. Prastana Trayam includes Upanishads, Brahma Sutras and Bhagavad Gita. Gita is one of the holy books of Sanatana Dharma (aka Hinduism) and is part of Prastana Trayam. Invoking the blessings of all the Sat Gurus and Aaradhya Devatha Bhagavan Sri Krishna, I am starting with an introduction to the great scripture Srimad Bhagavad Gita.īhagavad Gita literally means ‘the song of the Bhagavan’ and is often referred to simply as the Gita, which is a 700-verse scripture that is part of the great epic ‘Mahabharata’ written by Maharishi Veda Vyasa.
